Razen če je bilo objavljeno pred letom either the first non-US publication or 31st day after its first non-US publication, to delo v Združenih državah Amerike še ni v javni domeni, ker so se avtorske pravice na njem obnovile z zakonom URAA, saj je bilo ob sprejemu tega zakona (1. januarja 1996)v državi izvora (Francija) še vedno avtorsko varovano. V večini primerov je delo v Združenih državah Amerike avtorsko varovano še 95 let po njegovi prvotni objavi (izjema so dela, objavljena po letu 1977, v tem primeru do leta 2047, kot je razloženo na strani Commons:Hirtle chart)..
