Sistematični pregled raziskav iz leta 2010 je pokazal, da kognitivna vedenjska terapija izboljša bolnikovo soočanje z bolečino in zmanjša število obiskov pri zdravniku po opravljeni terapiji, vendar pa ni učinkovita pri samem lajšanju bolečine ter blaženju drugih simptomov, kot so utrujenost, motnje spanja in z zdravjem povezano zmanjšanje kakovosti življenja.
