Strasbourg je kot eden prvih centrov tiskanja knjig v Evropi v svoji knjižnici dolgo časa imel veliko [[inkunabula|inkunabul]] – dokumentov, natisnjenih pred letom 1500, kot eno svojih najdragocenejših dediščin. Po njegovem popolnem uničenju leta 1870 je morala nova zbirka nastati znova.
