[[korpus (vojaštvo)|Korpus]] [[mornariška pehota|mornariške pehote]] je bil ustanovljen [[10. november|10. novembra]] [[1775]] kot ''Kontinentalni marinci'' med [[ameriška vojna za neodvisnost|ameriško vojno za neodvisnost]]; [[nabor|rekrutacija]] se je začela v [[Tun Tavern]] v [[Filadelfija, Pensilvanija|Philadelphii]]. Služili so kot [[izkrcanje|izkrcevalne]] [[vojaška enota|enote]] za novo-ustanovljeno [[Kontinentalna vojna mornarica|Kontinentalno vojno mornarico]]. Po koncu [[vojna|vojne]] so bili ukinjeni aprila [[1783]] in ponovno ustanovljeni [[11. julij]]a [[1798]]. Kljub temu, marinci praznujejo [[10. november]] kot [[rojstni dan]] korpusa.
