Wikipedija bazira na [[hiperpovezava]]h, njen namen je "zgraditi splet" na način, ki omogoča bralcu enostaven dostop do koristnih informacij na ostalih straneh. Stran iz katere se hiperpovazava aktivira, se imenuje sidro; stran kamor kaže hiperpovezava pa cilj.

Pri dodajanju povezav se vprašaj ''"Kolikšna je verjetnost, da bo bralec želel prebrati tudi tale drugi članek?"'' Upoštevaj tudi kje bi si bralec želel, da bi bila taka povezava vključena; npr., v uvodu članka, na začetku poglavij, v [[Wikipedija:Slogovni priročnik/Tabele|tabelah]] in v [[Wikipedija:Slogovni priročnik/Captions|opisih slik]]. Toda preberi si [[WP:REPEATLINK|spodaj]] o pravilu, da naj se povezava ustvari le za prvo pojavitev izraza.

=== Na splošno o slogu povezovanja ===
* As explained in more detail at [[Help:Links#Wikilinks]], linking can be "direct" (<code><nowiki>[[Riverside, California]]</nowiki></code>, which results in {{xt|[[Riverside, California]]}}), or "piped" (<code><nowiki>[[Riverside, California|Riverside]]</nowiki></code>, which results in {{xt|[[Riverside, California|Riverside]]}} in the text, but still links to the article "[[Riverside, California]]").
* Section headings should not themselves contain links; instead, a {{tl|main}} or {{tl|seealso}} template should be placed immediately after the heading.
*Links should not be placed in the [[Emphasis (typography)#Methods and use|boldface]] reiteration of the title in the opening sentence of a lead.<ref group="nb">Many, but not all, articles repeat the article title in bold face in the first line of the article. Linking the article to itself produces '''boldface text'''; this practice is discouraged as page moves will result in a useless circular link through a redirect. Linking ''part'' of the bolded text is also discouraged because it changes the visual effect of bolding; some readers will miss the visual cue which is the purpose of using bold face in the first place.</ref>
*Items within quotations should not generally be linked; instead, consider placing the relevant links in the surrounding text or in the "See also" section of the article.
*{{anchor|Sea of blue}}When possible, avoid placing links next to each other so that they look like a single link, as in <code><nowiki>[[Ireland|Irish]]&nbsp;[[Chess]]&nbsp;[[Championship]]</nowiki></code> ([[Ireland|Irish]]&nbsp;[[Chess]]&nbsp;[[Championship]]). Consider rephrasing the sentence, omitting one of the links, or using a more specific single link (e.g. to [[Irish Chess Championship]]) instead.
*Articles on technical subjects might need a higher density of links than in general-interest articles, due to their larger number of technical terms that general dictionaries are unlikely to explain in context.
*Do not create links to user or wikiproject pages in articles, except in articles about Wikipedia itself (see [[WP:Self-references to avoid]]).
*Do not unnecessarily make a reader chase links: if a highly technical term can be simply explained with a very few words, do so. Also use a link, but do not make a reader be forced to use that link to understand the sentence, especially if this requires going into nested links (a link that goes to a page with another technical term needed to be linked, which goes to a page with a link to another technical term, and so on). Don't assume that readers will be able to access a link at all, as, for example, they might have printed an article and be reading the hard copy on paper.
